The Innovation Precincts are designed to drive impact and foster the development of new technologies, ways of working and solutions that are socially responsible and addressed to the major challenges of our time.

About the Role
Step into an impactful, purpose-driven role enabling the University and its partners to grow and harness the full potential of being part of the Melbourne Connect innovation ecosystem. As Senior Partnership Officer, you will coordinate and deliver partnership services to existing and prospective partners of the innovation precincts that create value for the University and -partner.

This is an exciting role in the newly created Innovation Precincts, giving you the opportunity to engage with and develop a detailed understanding of a uniquely diverse group of stakeholders. You will quickly establish trusted and productive relationships with our target and secured partners.  Energised by the idea of contributing to meaningful projects and with a commercial mindset, you will develop and deliver service plans, and coordinate and curate collaboration and University of Melbourne linkage opportunities to nurture and develop strong collaborative and revenue generating outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reporting to the Director – Innovation Precincts (the Supervisor) and working collaboratively with the Innovation and Enterprise portfolio, RIC, Melbourne Connect Liaison Office, cognate faculties, Science Gallery Melbourne, Melbourne Entrepreneurial Centre, and project teams of the new innovation precincts in development
  • Support the University Key Account Manager and/or Business Development Manager for secured or target partners of Melbourne Connect and the new innovation precincts in development. Support includes developing company briefs, undertaking external market analysis, internal capability assessments, preparing pitch decks and reports, and organising and recording meetings and workshops.
  • Proactively identify and propose business development opportunities from co-located partner interactions for the University and qualify and triage these to relevant areas, whilst maintaining coordination of the overall partner experience.
  • Working directly with co-located partners and under the broad direction of the University Key Account Manager, develop and deliver a Partnership Plan for partners of Melbourne Connect. Undertake planned, proactive and opportunistic engagement and communication with co-located partners to ensure timely and agreed levels of engagement are met and collaboration opportunities are fostered and optimised.

About You
As an engaging and skilled communicator with a high EQ and strong business acumen, you understand how to build credibility and generate buy-in from senior stakeholders. You should have a high degree of initiative and are a self-starter comfortable with experimenting with new ways of doing things and working in new and rapidly evolving environments. With a high degree of autonomy and initiative, you are looking to join a purpose-driven team and support the evolution of our complex, unique – and very exciting – innovation precincts. A business savvy go getter with a keen interest in research and an eye for strategic growth opportunities, you will be passionate about our mission to make a positive difference.

The incumbent thrives in a dynamic and fast paced environment and demonstrates a highly collaborative and agile approach, and previous experience of dealing in ambiguous settings is essential.

You should also have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience and expertise or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training. Knowledge and skills:
  • Subject matter expertise in digital technologies, life sciences and/or STEMM disciplines, the commercialisation of research, and experience with design-thinking, UX and other contemporary approaches to project ideation, co-creation and entrepreneurship.
  • High level customer engagement expertise, delivering customer service and project management using face-to-face and digital platforms.
  • Experience, understanding and effectiveness at working in the interface between academia, business/corporate and government.
  • Demonstrated excellence in complex project management and meeting deadlines with exceptional attention to detail.
