About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Emergency Critical Care (Education Focused), with the primary focus to provide Emergency and Critical Care Service (ECC) at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney. The successful candidate will work closely with the Hospital Director, CEO, Business Manager and ECC Unit Head to continue to raise the profile of the ECC to clients and referring veterinarians. You will support the operational oversight of the ECC unit services which will involve establishment and implementation of policies and procedures, ensuring that staff operate in accordance with such polices and that there is excellent communication with internal and referring veterinarians and while delivering high level of service is delivered. You will have an active teaching role of final year DVM veterinary students in liaison with the Heads of ECC and Primary Care.
The education-focused role is a specialised category of academic engagement for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice. A Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Education-focused) is expected to make significant contributions to teaching and learning within the DVM program, primarily within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for final year students with involvement in didactic settings for earlier years, A Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Education-focused) is expected to dedicate the majority of their contribution to education (up to 70% - or by mutual agreement - of their academic workload allocation).
Your key responsibilities will be to:
maintain reputation for academic excellence
make original and innovative contribution to the advancement of research and education within the discipline which are recognised as outstanding, nationally or internationally
maintain a research profile which meets University expectation and standard and enhance the reputation of the School, including, success in competitive research grants and other research income generation, publications in peer-reviewed international journals
lead the development in research which enhance the reputation of the School, such as leading participation in internationally-funded research projects or partner-engaged research projects
coordinate and develop curricula and program within the School ensuring outstanding teaching and learning outcomes
coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experience which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education
lead strategic initiatives and partnerships with external organisations, including government, industry and/or community organisations.

About you

a postgraduate research qualification (PhD) or is near completion, in the area in small animal emergency and critical care medicine is preferred
a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists or a Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care or the European College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care that enables registration as a Specialist in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine in Australia
an ability to work closely with veterinarians in all referral services of the UVTHS in a collegiate manner
proven ability to manage a high caseload using best-practice principals and achieve operating objectives
leadership capacity in a specialist discipline
a willingness to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Higher Education) or a comparable PG course in teaching and learning
experience in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching.
The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and knowledge.
