This is a jointly funded 1 FTE role: 0.5 FTE with Flinders University and 0.5 FTE with South Australian Genomics Centre (SAGC), which is based at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). The successful candidate will therefore have employment agreements with both Flinders University and SAGC.

About the SAGC

The South Australian Genomics Centre (SAGC) is a multi-institutional, national genomics facility that is supported by Government of South Australia and Bioplatforms Australia (BPA) through the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). The SAGC has consolidated genomics and bioinformatics expertise in the state, with a group of more than 12 genomics and bioinformatics staff working side-by-side to deliver innovative genomics and bioinformatics solutions across all areas of genomics research, including agriculture, healthcare and ecology. The SAGC is headquartered in the iconic South Australian Health and Medical Research (SAHMRI) building in the Adelaide CBD. Its Flinders Node is located in the new Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) as the centrepiece of the Flinders Village development. This role is primarily based at the Flinders campus.

About the Role

The Senior Genomics Research Coordinator will provide consultation and execution of genetics/genomics services primarily for users of the Flinders Node of the South Australian Genomics Centre (SAGC). SAGC operates as a core resource to researchers across South Australia and beyond.

This position is vital in ensuring that all services from the Flinders Node are delivered within a quality framework, in an efficient and effective manner, meeting industry standards as well as stakeholders' requirements. The Senior Genomics Research Coordinator will work across multiple different projects and possess excellent organisational, collaborative and time-management skills. In addition, general to broad knowledge of current genomics technologies, next generation sequencing, laboratory and team management is required. High standard service delivery will include well-developed communication skills to maintain and develop stakeholder relationships and provide engaging workshops and presentations.

About You

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Bachelor degree with Honours or equivalent in a relevant laboratory based field and relevant subsequent experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training
  • Extensive experience with molecular biology techniques including handling of nucleic acids
  •  Previous extensive experience managing complex projects from development to completion with comprehensive reporting on milestones
  • Experience in handling and analysing complex data sets
  • Well-developed to high level IT skills, use of online genomics tools and genomics software and ability to quickly become proficient with other programs as require
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques including handling of nucleic acids and high standard of laboratory skills
  • Prior management experience in molecular laboratories and working experience in NATA-accredited laboratories (desirable).
