About You
Take a leading role in RMIT’s External Affairs and Media team, helping to drive the university’s external communications strategy and protect, position and promote the RMIT brand. An opportunity for an experienced people manager, this role oversees the corporate affairs team who manage daily media relations, pitching and issues management, and the social media team who maintain, build and amplify RMIT’s presence across all major social media channels.
A key advisor, this role supports the Director, Communications and wider communications leadership team with expert guidance, strong stakeholder relations, issues management and reporting and analysis. Success in this position will be backed by a keen understanding of the current media landscape and experience using social media as a strategic communications tool. Demonstrated experience in both anticipating and managing risk and reputational issues across the media and social media landscape is a must.
Ideal for an experienced communications practitioner keen to lead a high performing team in a large and complex organisation , this position offers a varied day-to-day with stimulating challenges and the opportunity to drive rewarding results and impact.
To be successful in this position, you’ll have:
Proven experience in a highly effective external communications function that is aligned to both stakeholder objectives and organisational strategy.
Significant experience working in an issues rich environment and can lead, manage and execute multiple projects concurrently.
Proven experience in communications planning, delivery and measurement that contributes to strategic organisational objectives.
Significant experience in leading a team and delivering key streams of work.
High level of interpersonal and consultation skills with an ability to build strong relationships, effectively influence, encourage and communicate.

The International and Engagement portfolio is responsible for RMIT’s international strategy and agenda, including international development and partnerships and oversight of our international operations including RMIT Vietnam and RMIT Europe. It also incorporates the University’s key engagement functions including communications, experience (global marketing, global student recruitment, alumni), and business development and partnerships.
