Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend
Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships are provided by the Australian Government to support both domestic and international students undertaking Research Doctorate and Research Masters degrees.
As part of this program, a RTP Stipend (living allowance) is available to help support domestic and international students with living costs whilst studying at Monash.
The RTP Stipend is also part of a support package for Indigenous Australian students. For further information refer to Monash Indigenous Research Scholarships .

My future seemed uncertain, with no hope of ever going on to higher education before this scholarship. It has changed my life. I've been able to grow my skills from professional development activities such as Engineers without Borders, and am now working towards my goal to use engineering to give back to the less privileged communities.
Am I eligible?
You must be one of the following:
- An Australian citizen
- A New Zealand citizen
- Australian permanent resident
- Australian humanitarian visa holder
- An International student
You must meet the following criteria:
- meet Monash's competitive scholarship selection process requirements ; and
- meet Monash English language proficiency requirements.
This scholarship is also available to students undertaking Joint Research Awards when Monash University is the home institution.
Benefits
The RTP Stipend provides:
- a living allowance (stipend), and
- a relocation allowance, if eligible.
There are a number of tuition scholarships available for our international students that can be packaged with this stipend.
Domestic students will automatically be provided with a RTP Fees Offset .
Selection criteria
Monash scholarships are very competitive and are awarded based on your academic record, any research outputs and prior research experience.
If successful in receiving a RTP Stipend, please ensure you familiarise yourself with the conditions and benefits as specified in the policy and procedures .
How to apply
Application for graduate research scholarships is done at the time of applying for your course, unless you are already enrolled. Whether you are a new or current student, the same application process is used for both admission and/or scholarship via our Applicant Portal. You do not need to specify which scholarship you are applying as you are automatically considered for all graduate research scholarships (where eligible).

1 Note the closing date for R1/2024 (International) has been extended to 4 April 2024 due to Easter.
