(HE06) $82,879 to $89,525 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

Fixed term, full time position available for 12 months with a possibility to extend.

We are now recruiting for a Research Officer to join the Tumour Inflammation and Immunotherapy Program, led by Professor Brendan Jenkins. The position will assist with ongoing studies to identify the mechanisms by which uncontrolled activation of the immune system drives chronic inflammatory conditions (e.g. gastritis, pancreatitis, COPD) and inflammation-associated cancers (stomach, lung, pancreatic).

The Research Officer will provide high quality laboratory support, with a particular focus on molecular and cellular biological and genetic approaches, together with human translational studies. The Research Officer will join a dynamic environment, with the opportunity to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. They will gain exposure to a diverse set of research techniques, including DNA, RNA and protein extraction from cells and/or tissues, gene expression (qPCR) analyses, cloning, mutagenesis, and immunodetection assays (immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, immunoblotting, ELISA) and tissue culture

SAiGENCI operates as an independent institute within the University of Adelaide and in alliance with the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN). SAiGENCI supports and promotes collaborations with other cancer research centres in Australia.  SAiGENCI aims to develop the highest quality scientific program to achieve its chief goal of making discoveries to decrease the burden of cancer, by attracting and retaining brilliant biomedical and clinical researchers.  The Institute will also have a global reach by collaborating with likeminded centres of excellence across the globe.

SAiGENCI will provide a focal point for cancer research in the South Australian Biomedical Precinct and through this, enable South Australian participation in the developing Australian network of cancer institutes, and national and international clinical trials partnerships.  In so doing, SAiGENCI will help develop world-class and life-changing treatments and improve the outcomes of patients with cancer.

To be successful you will need: 

  • Ability to learn new techniques in the laboratory, troubleshoot and interpret data.
  • Solid computing skills in software programs, such as Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism.
  • Excellent communication skills including well developed interpersonal communication skills and effective active listening skills.
  • Developed organizational skills and an ability to ensure well documented systems are adhered to, including accurate record keeping skills in accordance with good laboratory practice. Meticulous approach to experimental work, data collection and interpretation.
  • Demonstrated rational problem solving and analytical skills.
