About the team  

The Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA) is the principal research infrastructure centre at UWA. CMCA comprises a team of academic, research, technical and administrative staff supporting a diverse range of instrument platforms. The CMCA’s mission is to enable research excellence by providing access to world-class scientific infrastructure and expertise in characterisation to researchers and industry. 

The CMCA hosts and provides management oversight of the Western Australian node of the National Imaging Facility (NIF*) , Microscopy Australia (MA), and the Metabolomics and Proteomics nodes of Bioplatforms Australia (BPA). The Centre’s Bioimaging Facility, which incorporates the NIF node platforms and staff, currently comprises a range of small animals, plants and materials imaging capabilities.

The WA NIF node is currently undertaking a major expansion to provide researchers with access to research-only human 3 Tesla MRI and digital PET-CT scanners. This will be the first focussed research human imaging facility in the state.


About the opportunity 
 

As a Research Fellow you will use your academic and PET-CT technology expertise to play a leading role in human imaging research and to drive innovation and novel research methodologies. You will oversee the day-to-day operation of the digital PET-CT scanner and related instrumentation, coordinate research projects utilising the PET-CT, contribute to the management of the facility and take responsibility for the quality of data produced.

You will also use your exceptional collaboration skills to build relationships and work closely with research groups in Western Australia and nationally, participate actively in the national network of NIF Fellows and promote NIF activities to the international, national and state scientific community.


To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
 

  • PhD in a relevant subject area such as physics, life science or a related field is desirable
  • Post graduate qualifications or experience in Nuclear Medicine
  • Knowledge and experience in the operation of PET-CT
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team;
  • Excellent organisational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Strong computing and data management skills

Occasional after hours work or travel within the state and interstate may be required.
