(Level A) $75,888 - $102,040 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

(Level B) $107,276 – $126,894 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

Full Time, Fixed Term position to June 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity be part of the Defence Trailblazer for Concept to Sovereign Capability - a collaborative partnership between the University of Adelaide and UNSW. This opportunity is also advertised by UNSW.

Defence Trailblazer is recruiting a Research Associate - Level A / Post-Doctoral Fellow Level B. The position will be located within the Adelaide Business School at The University of Adelaide.

Undertaking multidisciplinary research activities as directed by the Chief Investigator, the successful candidate will utilise their skills and experience to carry out independent and team-based research. They will also develop their research expertise and have a strong background in either the social sciences, business or law.

Reporting to the Chief Investigator the successful candidate will have excellent communication skills to work with relevant academics, researchers and students across UoA and UNSW.

To be successful at Level A you will:

  • Hold a PhD (or be near completion) in a relevant discipline (i.e., social sciences, business, law).
  • Demonstrate fluent written and oral communication skills.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and the ability to solve applied research problems using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Have experience, or demonstrate capability, in working collaboratively between the higher education sector and other industries.
  • Demonstrate the ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.

To be successful at Level B you will also:

  • Have experience in preparing data-insights in various formats (i.e., publications, presentations, theses, reports, briefs, or infographics).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of descriptive, predictive and causal analysis.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently.
  • Have high level organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and manage workload in a busy environment and the ability to meet competing deadlines under limited supervision.

Desirable characteristics:

  • Demonstrated interest in commercialisation, intellectual property issues or public policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake original, creative and innovative research.
  • A track record of prior academic publication(s) or related experience.
  • Teaching experience, including experience coordinating tertiary courses.

The successful candidate may be required to hold or attain an Australian government security clearance. [ML1]  

Knowledge and experience in the higher education, Defence and/or defence industry sectors is highly desirable.
