$72,885 - $80,438 (FTE)

Rehabilitation and Aged Care, College of Medicine and Public Health
The Research Assistant will work with the Research Fellow and Study Coordinator on a research project evaluating innovative models of care for community dwelling people with Mild Cognitive Impairment and dementia. Specifically, the incumbent will work on a project determining whether a short therapeutic intervention which encourages people with chronic health conditions to consider their values and what is important to them will maximise their quality of life in the coming months. They will assist with recruitment, meeting with older people who are participants in the study, talking with older people and identifying the person’s goals and important factors in their quality of life (as per the study protocol), collecting and entering data and preparing simple reports.
The Research Assistant will assist the Research Fellow and Study Coordinator with research activities such as preparing study materials, assisting with literature searches and data management.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Research Assistant is accountable for:

  • Providing assistance and support to clinical trial and other research activities within Rehabilitation, Aged and Palliative Care. 
  • Providing a counselling intervention for clients (people with Mild Cognitive Impairment or dementia) within the research project.
  • Assisting in the conduct of high-quality research and participating in the production of data under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Assisting with the identification and recruitment of eligible participants.
  • Collecting data using a number of different methods (e.g. survey data and outcome assessments with study participants).
  • Entering information on outcomes into a database in preparation for data analysis.
  • Other related research activities as determined from time to time by the supervisor.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of a Degree (Bachelor or Masters) in nursing or Allied Health or similar field, or have equivalent experience in health/social care.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, coupled with a high level of discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify priorities and work to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Hold a current valid driver’s license without restrictions.

Desirable capabilities:

  • Experience working with people with dementia in a health or aged care context.
