Position overview

ANU has an international reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the Research School of Psychology, the ANU Medical School, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the Research School of Population Health. These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.

The Rural Clinical School (RCS) of the ANU Medical School is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health under the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program. The program aims to improve the health and well-being of rural and Indigenous communities within the South-East NSW region through the delivery of high quality education and training to medical students and medical graduates, and provides support to the health professionals who work in these regions. Operating from Canberra, the RCS footprint covers Cooma, Bega, and Batemans Bay/Moruya in the South, and Goulburn, Young and Cowra in the north. Regional training hubs build on the rural training network established through the RHMT program.

The Hub project officer supports the establishment of a rural training hub aimed at improving the recruitment and retention of medical graduates in the South-East NSW region. The South-East NSW Regional Training Hub (HUB) operates across the existing Rural Clinical School footprint and enables both medical students and medical graduates to complete a significant part of their training in a rural region and assist them with their long-term career planning. The Hub project officer is based in Bega or Goulburn and is required to travel to RCS locations and work with a degree of autonomy, under the direction of the Hub Manager, South-East NSW Regional Training Hub. The position will work closely with the Hub Manager and liaise and engage with the regional RCS staff and the wider rural communities to support and implement the objectives of the program.
