The Sydney Nursing School is seeking to appoint a Professional Practitioner in Nursing (Senior Lecturer) to assist Nurse Practitioner students in meeting eligibility requirements for completing a degree leading to AHPRA endorsements as a Nurse Practitioner. Your duties may include clinical teaching and assessment with a focus on supervising and mentoring Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) students in both their academic and clinical studies.

The incumbent will be located at our Camperdown Campus in the Susan Wakil Building and leading teaching of clinical skills in classroom and laboratory based environments. You will be supporting our strong focus on maintaining clinical relevance in our teaching,

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake teaching and training of students in classroom, laboratory and clinical setting, applying clinical experience and expertise to inform best practice teaching

  • deliver professional standards training and education to students to prepare them to meet eligibility requirements for completion of a degree leading to AHPRA endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner.

  • supervise students to be able deliver best practice multi-disciplinary, patient centred advanced practice care

  • liaise with internal academic leads and clinical supervisors

  • support students to develop strong communication skills with fellow health professionals as well as patients and their families or carers

  • engage in high-quality clinical teaching and learning experiences which meet the University’s expectations and standards for clinical education staff

  • provide advice, mentoring, and guidance relevant to the stage of training to students to prepare them for engaging in clinical practice

  • contribute to innovative practices in clinical education with a view to improving educational outcomes

  • apply expertise in clinical practice to provide training and support to academic staff on effective, innovative and contemporary clinical practice

  • contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled.

About you

  • current AHPRA-endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner

  • bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing or health related field

  • proven experience in clinical teaching and learning in a tertiary environment (or clinical placement), as evidenced by student coaching and skills development

  • Nurse Practitioner with clinical experience who has already developed skills and competencies in clinical nursing - at least 2 years clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner desirable

  • proven experience working in a clinical setting and ability to apply expertise and knowledge to inform advanced practice teaching

  • demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • strong commitment to patient and student-centred care.
