Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow

• Base Salary Level A $101,507 p.a. - $112,462 p.a., pro-rata + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The School of Chemistry wishes to strengthen its teaching and research capacity through the appointment of four Associate Lecturer positions. The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within the School/Faculty and will be on a trajectory towards leadership in educational design and delivery.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education

• deliver outstanding teaching and learning outcomes

• develop teaching and subject materials under the supervision of more senior academic staff within the School/Faculty

• contribute to knowledge within discipline or area of expertise

• develop and refine research skills

• maintain quality, standards and excellence in any research activities and output.

You will be required to teach the equivalent of a first-year lecture block consisting of approximately 19 lectures, 7 tutorials, and 6 third-year laboratory supervision sessions. Other requirements include completion of the Principles and Practices stream of the University’s Modular Professional Learning Framework, and associated exam paper setting and marking. It is expected that your teaching commitment will be concentrated in, but not limited to, one semester during 2024. Experienced teaching staff will provide ongoing mentoring and training.

The four (4) positions are part-time (0.2 FTE), according to the needs of the School. The School will cover the fractional salary cost, allowing the possible extension of an existing postdoctoral research appointment.

About you

• a PhD degree in chemistry, or a closely related discipline

• experience working within a University environment

• a postdoctoral research appointment or fellowship within the School of Chemistry

• experience in teaching and learning

• previous involvement in conducting original research and/or engaging in scholarly activity

• good organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail

• excellent written and verbal communication skills

• a commitment to supporting the student experience of learning.
