About the Role 

The Manager Research Grants, Australian Research Council (ARC) portfolio will be responsible for the effective management and administration of the portfolio of ARC grants at Swinburne University, along with other government and philanthropic funding opportunities.
Under the oversight of the Senior Manager Research Grants and in close collaboration with the Manager Research Grants (NHMRC/MRFF), the position will oversee service support and resource allocation across all stages of the funding lifecycle. This will ensure that all pre and post award administration functions within the portfolio are effectively and efficiently completed.
The role will actively contribute to the development and implementation of improvements to grants administration systems at Swinburne, translating into high quality applications and streamlined support for researchers and the relevant business units.

About You  
To be suitable for this role, you will: 

  • Provide whole of university co-ordination and support for grant schemes and programs within the ARC portfolio across the full funding lifecycle. This includes the development and implementation of annual operational plans for major grants.
  • Oversee the promotion of relevant grants and funding opportunities to Swinburne researchers, including the development and dissemination of scheme/round-specific information to business units and institutional stakeholders.
  • Ensure the effective resourcing and timing of applications for ARC portfolio-related grant funding rounds to deliver high-quality and competitive submissions which maximise Swinburne’s success rate.
  • Oversee the post award management of ARC grant schemes and other government and philanthropic funding programs.
  • Effectively interpret funding guidelines and provide guidance to researchers on complex issues relating to grant eligibility and/or compliance. 
  • Support development activities to assist researchers in selecting appropriate grants relevant to their career stage and successfully managing their funded projects.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of grants administration systems, team knowledge and capacity.

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing, advising on and assisting in the development of research funding applications, specifically for ARC grants.
  • A strong understanding of the Australian research environment and grants landscape.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a small team to achieve targeted outcomes. 
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, energy and self-motivation with a flexible, outcomes and solutions-oriented attitude and approach focussed on the continuous improvement of services.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan large administrative projects and prioritise tasks, anticipate requirements and work to tight deadlines.
