  • Full-time, fixed term contract until 24 January 2024
  • Commencement Salary: $123,186 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)

About the Role

The Manager Graduate Research Development provides leadership in the development, planning and implementation of initiatives to achieve the University’s strategic research objectives, in the specific area of research education and training. You will also manage a dedicated team of project officers and business analysts, and work closely with the Dean of Graduate Studies to ensure the University offers postgraduate research students and their supervising staff a world-class experience.

The position will initially be based at the Mawson Lakes campus and will relocate to the city campus towards the end of the year.

Research and Innovation Services supports the Deputy Vice Chancellor: Research and Innovation to deliver against the ambitions outlined in the Research and Innovation Strategic Plan. This is achieved through positioning UniSA to be responsive to the changing local, national and international environment and the delivery of high quality, effective support services to researchers and decision makers. Areas of research service activity span partner engagement, research project development and management, research integrity and research training.

The Graduate Research Development Team supports the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to improve the quality of the experience and outcomes for postgraduate research students and to position the university as a destination of choice. Key to this are strategic initiatives aimed at transforming the PhD, to enhance the quality of research training and career prospects for research students.

Core Responsibilities

  • Research and critically analyse initiatives, trends, issues and practices originating both within and external to the University related to research education
  • Support the Dean of Graduate Studies in the development of postgraduate research recruitment strategies
  • Provide effective leadership, management and supervision, and seek to build staff capability and skills
  • Ensure the effective provision of high-level advice, statistical analysis, reports and recommendations to the Dean of Graduate Studies and other stakeholders
  • Represent the University to a range of external networks and keep well-informed of best practice initiatives across the sector

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive experience in a relevant field, ideally experience of or familiarity with research in a tertiary environment; or demonstrated equivalent experience, knowledge and skills
  • Sophisticated analytical and writing skills
  • An ability to manage multiple concurrent pieces of varied work, professionally and effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a high performing team, including developing the capabilities of team members
  • An excellent record of achievement in leading, coordinating and integrating service delivery across multi-functional teams and units
