Assist in providing specialist governance support and advice to senior management, and controlled entities with regard to the provisions and requirements of the University's governance framework and statements.

Working under limited direction with a degree of autonomy, the Manager, Governance Services supports the Director, Governance Services in the provision of high-level executive support to the Chancellor, Council, and its Committees as well as the delivery of astute high-quality advice and direction on key governance issues including with respect to the University’s enabling legislation, its Statutes, Rules and By-laws and timely and proactive advice and support to the governing body so that all members of Council and its Committees may be confident that governance and legal and regulatory compliance requirements are identified, accessible and easily understood by those who must comply with them.

The role also coordinates and leads the support of University Elections, Quality Assurance, Delegations Framework and special projects, while taking carriage of minute secretary for Council Committees.

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated high level communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated experience in governance (or related) compliance and advice, with some knowledge of the Australian Higher Education sector and governance frameworks desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high level executive officer (or company secretarial, or equivalent) support to Boards/Councils and Committees, including the preparation of agenda and oversight of papers, the preparation of papers, minute taking and drafting reports.
  • Some experience with conducting elections (which may include director elections or equivalent) will be desirable
  • Tertiary qualification (preferably in law) and extensive relevant experience. Postgraduate qualifications, or working towards postgraduate qualifications will be desirable (or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education / training).
