Curtin Medical School – Discipline of Medicine

Established in 2017, the Curtin Medical School, which is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences, brings together multidisciplinary teaching and research expertise. The Curtin Medical School encompasses four Discipline including Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Science and Medical Radiation Science. The Discipline of Medicine leads the only undergraduate medical degree in Western Australia. It is committed to producing graduates who are better equipped to meet community needs, with primary care expertise, strong leadership skills and the ability to operate effectively in interprofessional care teams.

The MBBS course graduated its first year in 2022 and is enrolling an increasing number of students. This position will provide support to the Year Coordinator in relation to curriculum development and revision, administration of teaching and assessment activities, teaching and assessment delivery and student liaison and support.

About the role

This opportunity is being offered on a Teaching Focused work profile at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, based upon the experience of the applicant and will also attract a clinical loading.

In this role you will provide support in the coordination and administration of Year 5 of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course in association with the Year Coordinator, occasionally acting in the place of the Year Coordinator. This role promotes and supports student learning through mentoring and leadership demonstrating a commitment to the development of learning and teaching communities. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide support in the coordination and administration of year 5 of the MBBS course in association with the Year Coordinator.
  • Act in the place of the Year Coordinator if required.
  • Participate in teaching and fieldwork activities as required.
  • Participate in curriculum review and revision activities and write curriculum documents.
  • Design and contribute to formative and summative assessments.
  • Support external accreditation activities and write reports related to learning, teaching and assessment.

We are looking for someone with

  • For appointment to Senior Lecturer level a PhD is highly desirable.
  • Medical degree e.g., MBBS or equivalent.
  • Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a medical practitioner without any current undertakings or conditions.
  • Experience in health care education.
  • Experience and well-developed understanding of educational practice.
Work Requirements
  • Prior to appointment, the recommended applicant/s will need to have a current criminal record check in accordance with the University's National Police Certificate Assessment Procedures.
