About the position

The Lecturer, Media is expected to contribute to teaching and research in the discipline of Media production (particularly Screen Media) in the School of Media and Communication. They will teach into the Bachelor of Communication (Media) and the Master of Media programs and will also be responsible for maintaining and advancing scholarship, research and industry relationships in the field.

The position offers an opportunity to contribute to the distinctive and collaborative model of Media education at RMIT University, organised around studio teaching and iterative reflective practice. It will particularly suit applicants who have strong screen production industry connections and who are capable of guiding graduates within rapidly changing media environments and technologies.

The Lecturer, Media will be expected to work collaboratively and collegially with fellow academics in the two Media programs, undertaking associated duties such as academic advising and student selection. They will be responsible for coordinating courses, supervising postgraduate candidates, and updating and guiding colleagues and students on developments in contemporary screen production.

About You

To be successful in this position, you’ll have the following skills and experience:

  • The ability to prepare and deliver programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including online delivery, and the ability to produce high quality curriculum and program materials in the field of screen production.

  • The ability to undertake course coordination and to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially in relation to inclusive teaching practice and effective learning.

  • An emerging track record, evidence and recognition for quality research outputs in the field of screen production, including publications (including non-traditional research outputs), development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links.

  • Experience with supervising higher degree by research candidates.

  • Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding for projects through effective liaison with industry, community and government, relevant to screen production and reception.

  • High level interpersonal and communication skills appropriate for interacting with undergraduates, higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.

 

Qualifications  

Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in relevant field. 

 Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children Check and other checks as required by the specific role. Maintaining a valid Working With Children Check is a condition of employment at RMIT.
