This role plays a lead role within the Identity and Access Management (IAM) team in the IT Cyber department. The person in this role will manage the annual User Access Review cycle at UNSW , as well as, provide technical leadership to a diversified project team in a major effort to manage and support UNSW central identity management systems via the implementation of a modern IAM framework - a set of business processes, policies, data governance, and supporting technologies that enable appropriate and timely creation, maintenance, and use of digital identities. The Senior Specialist – Identity Directories Engineer will provide technical direction, guidance, and stewardship. The role reports to Head of Enterprise Identity and has no direct reports.

Accountabilities:

  • Manage senior stakeholders (Directors, School Heads, etc) across UNSW to deliver the annual User Access Review (UAR) cycle for UNSW including business owner engagement, UAR data analysis, management of UAR execution by reviewers, remediations and UAR reporting.
  • Work with Cyber Security Governance team and other stakeholders to drive UAR scope and actively participate in data analysis including access and entitlement categorisation.
  • Respond to questions and queries related to UAR, provide UAR report walkthrough to business owners and internal/external audit teams (if requested).
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOP) for UAR data collection, data analysis and remediations.
  • Engage with UNSW OCM team(s), IT Business Partner(s) for UAR notifications, commencement, and support.
  • Develop and oversee the design of Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions, from conceptual, logical, and physical design to meet business and technical requirements leveraging architecture patterns and following development processes.
  • Develop the appropriate architecture and perform the analysis to onboard applications to authenticate against Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), Active Directory or Lightweight Directory Services including analysis of claims for authentication and authorisation.
  • Design, develop and maintain integration components/applications for the Identity management platform.
  • Design and develop secure, robust, and reliable solutions for complex integration scenarios.
  • Manage complex risks and issues, and work with the Identity and IT application teams to ensure appropriate solutions are in place.
  • Develop, review and update policies, procedures and other documentation required to support IAM Solutions.

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of Identity Management frameworks including life cycle management, access management, governance, and reporting.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of user access review process and execution.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, and Federation Services
  • Knowledge of OAuth2.0, OpenID Connect and SAML protocols and experience in managing external identities by creating custom workflows in IAM system.
  • Proficiency in JAVA JEE Web Services is desirable.
  • Knowledge of certificates and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
  • Extensive experience in development of Identity Management solutions, enhancing custom connectors and workflows for IAM products.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD. Working experience in Git Hub, and Jenkins (or Bamboo)
  • Experience troubleshooting IAM Solutions in a production environment.
  • Understanding of key IT/Cybersecurity concepts (Network Security, Security Operations & Administration, Incident Response & Recovery, Identity and Access Management, Vulnerability Management etc).
  • Strong Experience in Unix/Linux and Cloud services.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Comprehensive analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
