About the Role

The Graduate Research Officer plays an integral role in delivering the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology’s 10-year research strategy and growth targets. You will support the full life cycle of Graduate Research Degrees for the Faculty through the provision of professional support services to prospective, newly enrolled and current graduate research students. You will work closely with the Faculty’s Academic Supervisors, School and Department Graduate Coordinators and Administrators, as well as collaborating with colleagues across Chancellery’s varied Student and Academic Services.

You will be responsible for our communication channels (website, Yammer and SharePoint sites), working to continuously improve, update and disseminate information to both graduate researchers and their supervisors.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop, or gain, experience in scholarships, application processing, and assessment, deferral requests, progress reviews and other related activities and events.

Responsibilities include:

  • Proactively and professionally provide effective administration
  • Respond in a timely manner to daily inquiries received either in person, phone, or through emails providing accurate and timely information to prospective or admitted graduate research students on a range of topics
  • Contribute to the development of Faculty specific policies and procedures


About You

Your strong interpersonal skills allow you to develop and maintain trusted relationships with both your immediate team as well as external stakeholders. Your excellent organisational skills enable you to prioritise your work and adapt to as needed, working effectively both as part of a team and independently. You have a keen eye for detail and completeness, particularly relating to the rules and guidelines around applications.

You will further have:

  • A relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Excellent communication skills including writing skills particularly for writing potentially sensitive emails
  • Demonstrated ability to learn systems quickly and provide support with team activities and processes as well as graduate research applicants and students
