About the role
The Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity (AFSE) is an Indigenous-led social change fellowship program established at The University of Melbourne in 2016 and funded by the Atlantic Philanthropies. Informed by Indigenous perspectives and grounded in Indigenous community engagement, the program is designed to support social change leaders and collaborative leadership in Australia, Aotearoa and the Pacific region.

The University is seeking to appoint an Executive Director who will be responsible for the overall leadership of AFSE. Leading and coordinating the activity of the AFSE team, the Executive Director will guide the development and implementation of strategic, operational and fiscal planning for AFSE and the delivery of the AFSE Program.

This is a broad and exciting role with responsibilities ranging from overseeing the development and delivery of curricula for the Program in collaboration with the Deputy Director, overseeing the Program’s administration, fiscal integrity and reporting, team leadership and development, building relationships and communicating with internal and external stakeholders and ensuring the long-term success of AFSE. The role will oversee the continued engagement and development of graduates from the AFSE program maintaining a vibrant, connected network of Global Atlantic Fellows.

The Executive Director will also maintain strong relationships across the University, with AFSE partners, The Atlantic Philanthropies, the University’s Indigenous Knowledge Institute and the broader network of Atlantic Fellows programs located in the UK, Ireland, USA, South Africa and SE Asia as well as the Atlantic Institute located in Oxford. They will lead the AFSE team in actively engaging communities of Indigenous knowledge holders (at a local, regional and global level), government, industry, philanthropic organisations and academic staff.
