About the opportunity

The Faculty of Engineering is looking for an experienced Educational Designer to provide deep technical knowledge and operational support to Academic Teaching staff across the Faculty to support the teaching and research requirements of the Faculty.

As an Educational Designer in the Faculty of Engineering, you will provide deep technical knowledge, learning design and operational support to teaching staff across the Faculty to support the teaching requirements of the Faculty. You will work in close collaboration with academic and teaching staff, inter-faculty teams and university wide stakeholders, to develop innovative online educational resources, and have the opportunity to create, develop, test and implement educational resources for use by staff and students online and in classrooms that are aligned to the needs of the work area.

The successful candidate will drive innovation in the provision of online learning sites and student learning experiences by providing practical solutions and delivering tools and resources. You will be responsible for providing expert advice, training and support to staff to make the best use of educational technology to deliver engaging and effective courses.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide deep technical expertise and operational support to the work area in the creation and development of educational resources to enhance student learning experience

  • provide strategic support and advice to academic and teaching staff on the effective use of educational and multimedia technologies across various programs of study in the Faculty

  • support with developing innovative tools and resources to meet the teaching and curriculum needs of the Faculty

  • partner with Professional and Academic teaching staff on instructional approaches, activities, and assessments that support student centered learning 

  • create, test, and implement online and classroom educational resources for staff and students using an LMS and other full range of other education technologies 

  • use your technical skills and judgement to identify problems, brainstorm and analyse answers, and implement the best solutions 

  • undertake ad-hoc projects and other activities.

About you

  • a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or the equivalent in experience

  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound  judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work

  • excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes

  • the ability to use digital tools and platforms to support academic colleagues delivering online and in-person education (Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, HTML and CSS, desktop video recording and publishing)  

  •  the ability to strive to develop and improve their own proficiency in using technology, and in recommending educational approaches, and so creating a positive impact for the faculty and University 

  • the ability to understand stakeholders needs and expectations, and deliver an excellent service experience for Faculty staff, students, and the community 

  • has the ability to think creatively about current challenges and opportunities to develop solutions, encouraging creative capacity in others to optimise outcomes for students, staff, and the faculty.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
