About the opportunity 

The Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2019 – 2024, sets out the University’s commitment to become a world-class leader in social and economic participation of people with disability in the life of the University. Within the six key objectives of the action plan, one objective focusses on outcomes for students and includes a commitment to provide innovative, creative, flexible and open learning environments that maximise access, participation and success for all students.

To support this goal, a pilot project is planned to demonstrate the application of the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The project is a collaboration between Inclusion and Disability Services and the Educational Innovation Team to redesign the delivery of a unit of study in line with UDL principles and develop an evaluation framework.

The Educational Designer works in close collaboration with academic and teaching staff to develop innovative online multimedia resources. You will play a leading role in adopting innovations in digital education, identifying and implementing new technologies, and developing education designs to improve learning outcomes that enhance the student learning experience. Your knowledge of Universal Design for Learning will ensure accessible learning activities and materials are created and evaluated. You will also be responsible for providing expert advice, training and support to staff to make the best use of educational technology to deliver engaging and effective courses.

  • strong knowledge and experience of UDL to ensure accessible design of learning activities in Canvas,
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
  • excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes
  • strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods
  • experience teaching or delivering education programmes, preferably in a tertiary education environment
  • experience working in a tertiary environment with working knowledge of using educational technologies such as Canvas, Studio and SRES together with sound understanding of current pedagogical approaches consistent with the educational and student experience strategies of the University
  • extensive knowledge of University policies and procedures and administrative processes within a tertiary environment.

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.

Australian Temporary Residents may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
