About This Opportunity 

We are seeking a Curatorial Assistant and Conservator to maintain and protect the invaluable specimens housed within our Integrated Pathology Learning Centre (IPLC) while supporting the day-to-day operations of our esteemed Museum. If you have a passion for conservation, a keen eye for detail, and a desire to engage with the academic and professional community, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Supervise IPLC laboratory, ensuring timely specimen preparation and maintenance. Adhere to health and safety protocols, conduct routine checks, and capture specimen images for documentation.

  • Develop and implement IPLC conservation plan. Identify priority areas, conduct condition assessments, and conduct research to uphold best practices. Respond promptly to conservation needs, especially post-loan returns.

  • Stay updated on conservation techniques through workshops and conferences. Foster connections with institutions to enhance IPLC conservation practices.

  • Assist Curator in museum activities, including hosting groups, providing orientations, and preparing specimens. Manage loan transportation.

  • Maintain EMu database for conservation purposes. Log activities, document maintenance, and generate reports for efficient collection management.

This is a full-time (100%), continuing (permanent) position. At HEW level 5, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $77,396.47 - $86,029.78 plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $90,553.87 - $100,654.84 annually.  As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.


About You  

  • Degree in laboratory science, museum conservation, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training

  • Understanding of museum operations and requisite skills

  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritisation abilities

  • Proficiency in computer usage, including Microsoft Office and database management

  • Capability to work independently and follow instructions

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with diverse groups

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment. 

  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

  • Driver’s LicenseIt is a requirement of this position that the incumbent must possess a valid Driver’s license.
