About the Role
The Ngarrngga Project (‘knowing’ in Taungurung language) is a signature initiative of the University of Melbourne which aims to empower educators to teach Australian students about the depth and wealth of First Nations peoples’ histories, cultures and contributions to Australia. The Project is led by the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE) in partnership with the University of Melbourne’s Indigenous Knowledge Institute and Indigenous Studies Unit. 

The Communications Manager is responsible for leading the Project’s engagement with the education community including the media and manages the Project’s internal and external communication and content strategies for the website, brand governance, and stakeholder events, and publishing.  

Responsibilities include:

• Develop, deliver and evaluate a Communications Strategy and action plans to facilitate effective internal and external communications.
• Lead the public relations function, including oversight and management of media enquiries and opportunities, the development of media plans, media releases and other key materials.
• Oversee the development of a brand identity for the Project and its educational products including a website. 

About You

You are an experienced Communications Manager with high level editing and written communication skills, along with a strong track-record of successfully working directly with the media to promote an organisation or project, and manage communications issues in a large, complex environment. You will be experienced in developing content for multiple audiences across digital channels as well as in developing website content, and able to understand audiences and analytical tools. Your strong interpersonal skills allow you to build effective working relationships with senior colleagues, staff and stakeholders, and to shape discussions within these relationships. You possess strong cultural competence and an ability to foster a safe, secure and supportive environment for all project stakeholders.

You will also have:

• A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline and relevant experience or equivalent mix of undergraduate education and extensive relevant experience. 
• Experience in developing, delivering and evaluating communication strategies and plans that align with project needs and relevant cultural and communication protocols.
• Advanced experience developing and delivering high-quality external communications integrating digital, print and multimedia materials.
