About the opportunity

The Pipeline and Pre-Awards Team within DVC Research has a fantastic opportunity for an established Business Development Manager to join their team and grow business within the Sydney Biomedical Accelerator initiative!

The Sydney Biomedical Accelerator is a partnership between the Sydney Local Health District and the University of Sydney, preparing for industry engagement starting 2024 ahead of 2027 opening. The SBA has already attracted extraordinary philanthropic support (including from the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation, Medich Foundation, and CLEARbridge Foundation), with further potential to collaborate with the University’s Advancement portfolio on further donations.

As the Business Development Manager, Sydney Biomedical Accelerator, you will support business development for the SBA, within the context of growing biomedical investment in Tech Central. This will include private investment from Wentworth Capital in a 30,000m2 Biomed, Science and Innovation Campus.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Business & Research Development, your key responsibilities will be:

  • drive industry collaboration and partnership development, aligning engagement activities with research objectives

  • identify and develop funding opportunities, leveraging relationships and managing engagement processes effectively

  • lead efforts to enhance industry and community engagement, modifying procedures to support research priorities

  • promote engagement between researchers and industry, facilitating positive outcomes and updates for University executives

  • cultivate an entrepreneurial culture and network, fostering relationships with stakeholders and representing the SBA at relevant events.

  • commercial experience in medical/life-science based research or technology developments

  • experience in managing multiple and complex stakeholder relationships

  • demonstrated conceptual, analytical and report writing skills related to partnership development

  • experience in identifying opportunities and developing strategies to capitalise on these opportunities

  • experience in the innovation sector in a business development role, e.g. government initiatives, industry, university

  • track record in developing & closing business development leads.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
