La Trobe University is one of the shareholders and founding member of the Cremorne Digital Hub (CDH), established with the support of the State Government ($10m government commitment). Membership in the CDH will provide La Trobe with access to a pool of tech companies, student placements and research contracts based in the Cremorne area, offering new partnership opportunities.  As a founding member, La Trobe will have to engage with these companies and will be part of a main platform sponsored by Victorian Government. It is intended through leveraging our exclusive service offerings in the CDH and through having a base within the community, to attract new partners back to Bundoora and into the Digital Innovation Hub (DIH). 


The role of the Business Development Assistant is to provide efficient and effective business development support for the Senior Business Development Manager in maintaining and developing industry, alumni and ecosystem partnerships that support the development and roll out of programs and initiatives for both the LTU I&E team and Cremorne Digital Hub.

The role’s primary focus will be to liaise and build partnerships with industry professionals and associations, key alumni, Cremorne Digital Hub staff and internal LTU staff  that lead to opportunities for students, alumni and CDH audiences including co-presentation/sponsorship of existing programs, workshop and panel participation, scholarship and stipend provision, work based learning, mentoring and coaching and provision of scholarships, investment and resources. Another key aspect of the role is the development and delivery of messaging and presentations around the I&E and CDH offering to promote and engage industry and alumni clients.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have

  • An undergraduate degree in any area relevant to the position with at least 4 years subsequent experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders to achieve stated outcomes.
  • Previous experience in a business development, marketing/communications or stakeholder management role.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially the capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively in small teams.
  • Demonstrated organisation and problem-solving skills, with an ability to manage several different projects concurrently.
  • Strong networking and presentation skills and the ability to make strong connections with prospective industry partners
  • Demonstrated skills in research, evaluation or interpretation of data.
  • Demonstrated high level of self-motivation and personal management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders to achieve stated outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to effectively synthesize material and present data in a range of formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and promote programs and opportunities to industry including delivery of presentations and attendance at fairs and industry events.
  • Exposure and knowledge of growth areas related to both CDH and the start-up ecosystem
  • Demonstrated ability to work across a business development workflow, including lead generation, conversion and account/relationship management.
