  • Opportunity for an experienced dentist and leader in dental education for the role of Program Director of the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program within the Sydney Dental School. The program director will lead the ongoing development and realisation of the vision and goals of the DMD Program.

  • Base salary from $174,618 + 17% superannuation

The Sydney Dental School is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor – Education FocusedThis position is crucial in making significant contribution to teaching and learning practice and engages in educational leadership within the school.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • maintain a national or international reputation for educational leadership, design and innovation

  • maintain a well-regarded and sustained record of educational or disciplinary research in high-quality national or international peer reviewed outlets

  • present at national or international conferences on educational practice, design and innovation

  • develop curricula and programs within the School/Faculty (e.g. leading a large interdisciplinary area, coordinating a large award program or a number of smaller award programs) which enhance the University’s standing as a national leader in education

  • design and deliver quality educational units of study and experiences that support student needs and meet curriculum requirements

  • teach formal courses in the DMD program

  • engage in supervision of dental students in clinical settings

  • apply scholarship and knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practice to innovate education

  • develop and maintain relationships with educational partners and placement stakeholders to ensure operational success

  • maintain an understanding of the University’s strategic agenda and contribute to furthering that agenda

  • develop a profile through pedagogical conferences, seminars and outreach activities.

About you:

  • AHPRA registration as a dentist or dental specialist

  • Doctorate or PhD in a relevant dentistry field

  • national or international reputation for excellence in educational design and delivery, including recognition for achieving improved or consistently excellent student outcomes, educational innovation, educational leadership and/or well-regarded pedagogical or disciplinary research

  • an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector

  • an understanding of and ability to lead and support an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student enabling environment.

  • experience in people leadership within the higher education sector, including demonstrated success in supervising and/or mentoring others towards success

  • proven leadership, commitment and passion for engaging in scholarly and/or pedagogical research activities, recognised at a national level

  • sustained record of excellence in educational design and practice within the discipline and beyond, as evidenced through demonstrated impact on student learning, recognition through awards/prizes and innovation.

  • wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of education in the discipline, School, Faculty and University.
