  • Base salary Level A, Step 6, $105,350 p.a. + 17% superannuation 

About the opportunity

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) is seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer Entomology/Biology (Education focused) to be based at the Camperdown Campus. Applicants from any area of Entomology are invited to apply. Working within the Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Theme and reporting to the Deputy Head of School the successful candidate will join a dynamic engaged group in a highly collaborative and supportive teaching and research environment.

SOLES provides an interdisciplinary research and teaching environment and brings together academics from across a broad range of disciplines to understand and solve complex global challenges, particularly those associated with sustainability. Key undergraduate teaching majors include biology, ecology and evolutionary biology, genetics and genomics, marine science, microbiology, plant science, soil science, animal and veterinary bioscience, and agriculture.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to the promotion of teaching and learning and will have a developing record of peer-reviewed research, creative work or scholarship, published and disseminated in high quality outlet(s) for their discipline.  

The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in management and administration.

As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for an Associate Lecturer Entomology/Biology (Education focused) who has:

  • a PhD in Entomology or related field

  • a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional organisations

  • a demonstrated track record of excellence in undergraduate teaching of Entomology and in other first year biology/animal related areas, including the delivery of lectures, tutorials and laboratory-based practical and field classes in a variety of face to face and/or hybrid and online modes

  • a demonstrated capacity to stimulate and actively engage undergraduate students and enable a supportive, safe and inclusive learning environment

  • well-developed capabilities in delivering online access to teaching materials and learning activities using CANVAS and can present a portfolio of work in this area

  • a demonstrated track record of innovations in, and evaluation of, assessment practices in Entomology

  • a demonstrated record of service, governance and high-level engagement (either through their work at a university or through association with a non-university organisation)

  • excellent time management, demonstrated written, oral and interpersonal communication skills

  • experience of relevant Work, Health and Safety requirements and management including laboratory and field work

  • experience in research supervision including Honours (desirable)

  • professional practice and development in teaching and learning, is working towards an Advance HE fellowship, Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or equivalent professional learning (desirable).

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
