The Office of Indigenous Education, Research and Engagement is responsible for providing the leadership and strategic direction for RMIT’s whole-of-university approach to reconciliation and engagement efforts and activities.

 About the role

The Administration Officer will lead the administration requirements of the Ngarara Willim Centre . The Officer will be responsible for supporting the administrative and financial requirements of the Centre, supporting staff, students, community and the Senior Manager, Indigenous Education.

The role will serve as the initial point of contact for the Centre and will coordinate meetings, communications, finances, procurement, systems and IT maintenance, liaison with students and stakeholders and general upkeep of the Centres across campuses.

About You 

To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum:  


  • Extensive experience in providing high-level secretarial and administrative support to a senior staff or equivalent in a university environment or similar large and complex organisation.


  • Diary and travel management, correspondence, bring forward action management, document development, information management and high-level liaison.

  • A good level of interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the proven ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of management, staff and external parties on complex, sensitive and confidential issues.

  • The ability to draft correspondence of a high standard to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Proven capacity to prioritise tasks, be strategic, exercise discretionary judgment and solve problems independently in an environment of high volume of work and tight deadlines.

  • Computer literacy including: word processing; presentation software; email; internet and electronic document management applications.

  • An understanding of the multifaceted challenges encountered by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the realms of education.

  • A knowledge and understanding of the tertiary education sector is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Desirable:  A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent level of expertise in providing support and services to tertiary students.

 * This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply . Proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required.
