PRIMARY DETAIL

• Salary package: Base salary of $ 81,581 to $109,852 per annum (Level A) plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading
• Appointment Type: full-time, 2.5 years fixed-term
• Location: Dual location between Wuyagiba outstation in remote eastern Arnhem Land and Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde) in Sydney

THE ROLE

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking two experienced Associate Lecturers to co-teach two Macquarie University 1st Year subjects (ENVS1000 Environment - Professional Skills) and (ACOM1001 Academic Communication in the Social Sciences & Humanities) and assist local Elders in the delivery of their cultural units (ENVS1501 Indigenous Science and ENVS1500 South East Arnhem Land Caring for Country and Culture).

Classes are delivered on Country in a remote Aboriginal outstation in purpose built Ecostructures Classrooms. For more information, please visit https://www.wuyagibastudyhub.org/ . All staff and students stay on site for the duration of the courses in the Bush Uni accommodation.

The on-site teaching sessions are in four lots of five-week blocks from April/May to November each year. The remaining periods will be primarily based on campus at Macquarie University, Sydney.

Reporting to Associate Professor Emilie Ens, you will prepare Aboriginal students from Arnhem Land for University by strengthening both ways knowledge (Cultural and Academic).

The Courses have been developed by Elders and leaders of SE Arnhem Land in partnership with Macquarie University staff. The Wuyagiba Study Hub is funded by the Australian Government’s Regional University Centres program, through the Wuyagiba Bush Hub Aboriginal Corporation (WBHAC).

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is a young and dynamic faculty driven by the spirit of discovery. Here we nurture the next generation of science and technology innovators. From a handful of students on the University’s first day, the Faculty now serves nearly 6000 students across all our programs.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working in a remote Aboriginal community

  • University degree or equivalent experience

  • Experience with team teaching

  • Academic literacy and numeracy skills

  • Flexibility and adaptability

  • Interest in working alongside Aboriginal cultural knowledge lecturers

  • Be willing to learn and conform to local cultural norms

  • Current Australian drivers’ licence (with experience driving a manual)

Desirable Skills

  • Remote First Aid

  • First Year University Level Teaching

  • Knowledge of Indigenous Science

  • 4WD experience
