Offer Description

PhD student position available to develop his/her thesis within the  SUPPORT project  (funded by EDCTP3):  action Supporting the next generation of African researchers on preventing HIV pediatric mortality through a training network’, a highly multidisciplinary, international and competitive training program in pediatrics research.

RESEARCH PROJECT: IMPACT OF IMPROVED FOLLOW-UP AND HIV POINT OF CARE VIRAL LOAD IN POST-DISCHARGE MORTALITY

Children living with HIV (CLHIV) who have recently been discharged from the hospital face a very high risk of post-discharge mortality (PDM). The rapid disease progression and heightened mortality risk observed in CLHIV during the post-discharge period necessitate differentiated follow-up strategies for clinical decision-making. By closely monitoring viral load (VL) levels, clinicians can identify children who require intensive management, specialized care, or additional adherence support, thereby reducing the risk of mortality. This research project aims to evaluate the impact of an improved follow-up model on PDM. It will involve closer follow-up and enhanced adherence interventions based on VL results.
