High School Diploma or GED required. Six months of animal related experience. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Grade 3N (Hourly)

Position Description:

The Veterinary Assistant I provides assistance to veterinary and research technicians in the performance of their duties in a laboratory animal research setting. The veterinary assistant also provides pre-operative and postoperative critical care of animals actively involved in research which may include all shifts and working independently.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinary and research technicians with procedures and techniques.
  • Perform pre-operative care and postoperative critical care of animals involved in research.
  • Autoclave and sterilize materials.
  • Prepare animals and surgical suites for surgeries, training labs, etc.
  • Perform and assist in the administration of injections and treatments ordered by veterinary staff.
  • Assist in the inventory control program.
  • Maintain equipment in surgical and laboratory facilities and clean and restock supplies.
  • Prepare surgical suite for surgical procedures and clean the suite after surgical procedures.
  • Laundry and organization of scrubs and lab coats for the upcoming workload.
  • Work weekends, holidays and be on call as scheduled accordingly.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
