Position AnnouncementUtah Valley University is seeking a Student Center Events Technician. Working under the direction of the Event Services Technical Director, plans and coordinates technical services for campus events. Provides audio-visual and multi-media support for all campus events, including meetings, conferences, executive events, plays, pageants, convocations, and concerts. Operates, troubleshoots, and maintains lighting, audio, and video equipment, including large venue video projectors, complex audio systems, computer systems, networking, complex theatrical lighting systems, video cameras, and video broadcasting equipment according to clients’ specifications. Maintains and repairs technical services equipment. Operates all audio/visual equipment.
Summary of Responsibilities- Events set-up and tear-down of all technical services equipment. Audio equipment to include speakers, mixers, microphones, and cabling. Lighting equipment to include theatrical fixtures, consoles, and cabling. Professional video broadcasting equipment to include cameras, tripods, cabling, and rigging systems and their components.
- Operates all audio/visual equipment for events to include sound systems, theatrical lighting systems, and live video production.
- Assists in lighting designs and plots, sound designs, and live video production designs. Updates equipment and software systems as needed.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or GED plus a minimum of 1 year of experience or education related to the Summary of Duties.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior supervisory experience preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Skill, and AbilitiesKnowledge
- Knowledge of professional theatrical lighting including procedures, practices, techniques, and terminology.
- Knowledge of industry standard fixtures, consoles, dimmers, and safety.
- Knowledge of professional audio sound reinforcement including procedures, practices, techniques, and terminology.
- Knowledge of speakers, amplifiers, mixers, microphones, common wiring, connections, and safety.
- Knowledge of professional video production including procedures, practices, techniques, and terminology .
- Knowledge of video formats and methods, video displays, projectors, video cameras, lenses, switchers, replay systems, common wiring, connection types, and safety.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting equipment and making minor repairs.
- Knowledge of installing audio-visual equipment.
- Knowledge of basic computer programs.
- Skills in interpersonal communication both written and verbal.
- Skills in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Skills in time management in a fast pace and stressful environment.
- Skills in developing strategies for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and processes.
- Skills in Computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, real time graphics, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe After Effects.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to Manage large events and high-profile clients.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Ability to think logically, resolve problems, identify tasks, and develop project plans.
