Job Title: Adjunct Instructor - TMA 267 and 367 Design and Tech Area - Makeup & Hair

Job Classification:  Adjunct Faculty - Teaching; Day and Evening courses, BYU Provo Campus

Required Degree: BA or BFA in Theatre. MFA in Technical Theatre (Specifically Makeup & Hair preferred). Required degree must be completed by start date.

Experience:  

  • 1+ years university teaching experience, or 3+ years professional theatrical makeup & hair experience. 
  • Experience teaching makeup and hair design and application skills at the basic and intermediate level to acting and design students.
  • Experience mentoring students in makeup and hair design projects.
  • Experience with wig and hair piece construction, alteration, maintenance, and styling at the college or professional level.
  • Knowledge of makeup and hair products used in the theatre, media, and entertainment industries.
  • A cosmetology/barber license or certification is a plus.
  • Experience in additional disciplines of theatre production and design is a plus (scenic, lighting, costumes, sound, and/or media design).

Duties/Expectations:

The adjunct instructor will teach­ Makeup courses: TMA 267 Principles of Makeup and TMA 367 Makeup Design. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Timely grading of student work 
  • Maintaining accurate records of student progress 
  • Completing final grades according to established deadlines 
  • Maintaining confidentiality of student information. 
  • Perform some administrative duties related to the makeup and hair area as needed.

Mentor students:

  • Designers through the theatre design process on theatre season productions.
  • In the costume shop in the construction, alteration, maintenance, and care of wigs and hair pieces.

Instructor must be an engaging and clear teacher, able to lead effective class discussions, and give students constructive and concise feedback. Instructor is expected to be available for faculty meetings and office hours as required for student consultations. 

Must reside in the State of Utah to be eligible for employment consideration.  Must be willing to teach the course(s) in person, on campus.
