Job Summary

This position has is part of the leadership of the Behavioral Health Services Team and has responsibility and oversight of AHP’s graduate-level Clinical Training Program, Gender Team Services and the Neuropsychological Assessment Program.  It involves the direct supervision of clinician staff. The role manages a clinical training program that provides trainees with individual and group supervision, and ongoing education and training around clinical issues emphasizing LGBTQ+ affirming brief therapy work and assessment and diagnosis. Additionally, the position serves as clinical and administrative lead of AHP’s Gender Team Services which provides staff consultation, training, oversight and development around the provision of services to transgender and gender non-binary clients including the development of procedures and protocols for conducting pre-surgical mental health evaluations for gender-affirming surgery.  The position will further serve an active role providing community outreach and promotion of AHP services for LGBTQ+ women and transgender/non-binary clients and provide clinical consultation to other community organizations on transgender mental health issues.

Department Description

The Alliance Health Project (AHP) is a community-based LGBTQ+ and HIV-focused clinic located at 1930 Market Street in San Francisco. We provide psychotherapy, substance use counseling, case management, support groups, psychiatry, sexual health services, clinical traineeship, and provider education and training. Our multi-disciplinary staff are a client-centered, collaborative, Harm Reduction-oriented team. We have continued to grow as a community-based clinic by anticipating and addressing the changing needs of our LGBTQ+ and HIV community members for more than 35 years. Our process of continuous improvement of service to our community includes a strong focus on cultural humility and anti-racist service provision.


Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or related Counseling field from an accredited school of Social Work, Counseling or similar/higher degree and minimum five yars of experience inclding three in a lead/supervisory role knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position or equvalent experience/training
  • Advanced knowledge of a specific counseling domain.
  • Advanced knowledge associated with conducting evaluation, diagnosis and psychotherapy services.
  • Advanced knowledge of laws and ethical standards.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced skills associated with conducting the most complex diagnosis, problem-solving and critical-thinking.
  • Skills associated with program development and implementation.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client group, medical staff, and faculty.
  • Ability to conduct the most complex analysis, develop and present recommendations, findings, and determine appropriate course of treatment.
  • Ability to exert influence on policies and programs of significance.
  • Knowledge of electronic / medical records systems.
  • Must be computer literate.
