Summary:
Under the direction of the Summer Program Director at Geffen Academy at UCLA, the Summer Middle School Study Skills & Writing Educator will create this course of study, prepare materials, and deliver an excellent summer Study Skills & Writing enrichment course for Geffen Academy's Summer Program students. The Educator will create and teach two courses, 2 sections. One course - Middle School Study Skills - will be for students rising grades 6-8, during which students are exposed to the educational elements needed for successful start and completion of middle school. The second course will be of the educator's design. The course will teach writing skills for students entering grades 6-11. This course will be 90 minutes in length and take place over a 3-week period. The course will be taught in-person on Geffen Academy's campus.
Job Duties:

Consistent with Geffen Academy's goals, participate in the design and development of curricula that develops a persistent inquirers mindset in the Geffen Academy's students. These habits include developing: organizational, procedural, and time-management strategies to successfully handle academic tasks both inside and outside the classroom.

Create opportunity for students to work on developing skills around: active listening, reading comprehension, writing fluency, note-taking, and studying strategies.

Help prepare secondary school students for the rigors of a middle school/high school education by helping them understand how to make the best use of the tools of successful students.

Create opportunities for students to practice their thinking and analysis.

Create a learning environment where students feel safe, welcome, and challenged.

Be available to students and parents for course-related issues.
