The University of Miami is currently seeking a Biostatistician 1 to work at Soffer Clinical Research Center in Miami. The incumbent provides laboratory-based support for the University’s research activities by tackling the more specialized and complex projects and experiments. Additionally, the incumbent leverages his/her expertise in training and mentoring department staff, students, and less experienced research associates.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Formulates analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis of files, consistency checks, tables, and figures.

  • Communicates with clients regarding statistical analysis issues.

  • Interprets analyses and writes statistical sections of study reports.

  • Prepares results for progress reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.

  • Maintains and documents studies’ databases.

  • Consults with study investigators on planning and specifying statistical analysis.

  • Provides support to resolve barriers to analysis and consults with other methodologists and statisticians.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                                                 

Education:

Master’s Degree in relevant field required

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

Department Specific Functions

1.   Iingest, clean and munge data coming from numerous formats including relational databases model using SAS and R.
2.    Do exploratory data analyses using SAS and R (and other tools as needed).
3.    Conduct statistical analyses using SAS and R (and other tools as needed) under faculty supervision
4.    Prepare reports using tools including Shiny and Quarto (and the Microsoft office suite as needed).
5.    Document workflows and save work using version control software.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Strong social skills and a demonstrated ability to work in a team is required.

  • The ability to work with the MS Office suite is useful but not required.
