Salary Range

$63,700 - $98,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

Leads efforts to create an analytical framework and metrics for evaluating the progress of the EBP and its Affiliated Projects; coordinates projects to minimize overlap of sequenced species; establishes sequencing priorities; and develops and implements an information system for locating species to be collected for genome sequencing.  Works collaboratively with international partners, the EBP Executive Committee and other members of the EBP Secretariat to create and upgrade existing EBP data resources, such as the Genomes on a Tree (GoaT) system. Participates with EBP governing structures to establish data access policies. Uses public domain databases and resources, such as NCBI, EMBL, GoaT, and GBIF, to create a global strategy for meeting EBP Phase I, -II, and -III goals.  


Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Information Systems, Business Information, Economics or a related field and three (3) years of related data analysis experience, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to aggregate, normalize and process large data sets.
  • Experience in using SQL, data visualizations, database software and statistical programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical analysis, database architecture, data mining and predictive modeling tools and techniques.
  • Experience in using and learning a wide variety of tools and languages to achieve results (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, Python, Hadoop, RapidMiner, SQL, Javascript, etc.).
  • Experience in training other staff in their use as needed.
  • Experience in completing projects with evidence of creative and critical thinking.
  • Evidence of effective communications.
  • Experience in working independently and within a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience to address important issues in biodiversity science, genomics, and ecology. Experience leading a complex data modeling project.
  • Evidence of a Master's degree in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computer Information Systems, or other closely related field and three (3) years of related data analysis experience, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Preferred Qualification: PhD in Genomics, Bioinformatics, or other closely related field

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 15 pounds. Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicting priorities. Ability to clearly communicate.
