Position Summary/Description:


The North Carolina Child Medical evaluation Program (CMEP) provides a structured system for medical and mental health evaluations in alleged cases of child maltreatment. Evaluations of children are performed at the request of county Departments of Social Services by local physicians/nurse practitioners/physician assistants and social workers/licensed clinical mental health providers who have agreed to provide the service(s) in accordance with the program guidelines.
The program's professional staff has developed, and periodically updates, evaluation protocols designed to document physical and emotional symptoms in keeping with the latest research relative to significant findings. The program's professional staff provides daily telephone and written consultation to local examiners, protective service workers and the legal system regarding appropriate services and significance of findings in children. The program is actively involved in educational programs for medical and mental health practitioners, protective service workers, law enforcement, juvenile judges and the legal community.
This posting is to join the Regional Abuse and Medical Specialist (RAMS) team that is part of CMEP. RAMS are Social Work Practitioner Advanced positions that provide consultation to all 100 NC Child Protective Service Counties. The RAMS provide guidance and oversight to all 100 counties in the management of high-risk child welfare cases which overlap with medical issues. By applying, you will be considered for a vacant position to work daytime hours as well as participate in the on-call system to ensure statewide coverage for RAMS consultations 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
The RAMS SW Practitioner will oversee the following types of cases with the county:
* A child is 3 and under AND there are concerns for unexplained/poorly explained injuries
* A child is 3 and under AND there is concern for a sexually transmitted infection
* A child is 3 and under AND another child who lives in the home has died as a result of suspected abuse or neglect
* Any case with a concern for medical child abuse (Munchausen by Proxy)
* Any case accepted for medical neglect with a medically complex child who: Requires subspecialty care by 2 or more specialists OR Receives a second report for medical neglect within 6 months regardless of the case outcome OR Requires devices to sustain their function such as a tracheostomy or g-tube
This position will build relationships between medical providers and CPS by improving CPS understanding and communication with the medical systems.
This position will include daytime responsibilities such as the case transfer meetings, Monday – Friday. This position will be co-supervised by the medical director of CMEP as well as a senior member of the state child welfare team. This position will NOT be available to testify in court and will NOT be managing cases directly with medical teams.

Education and Experience:


Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment. Some positions may require certification to practice as a certified or licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification Board.
