Job Description:

The laboratory of Dr. Donna D. Zhang is seeing a motivated and experienced Staff Scientist oversee the Chemical Biology division within our laboratory operations. This role is central to advancing our research objectives and requires a blend of expertise in chemical biology and leadership abilities. The position will perform various tasks designed to support the impactful research of the lab including multi-dimensional experiments and assays. The ideal candidate will work independently and within the research team with significant experience and judgment to plan and accomplish defined goals in a given research project.  The candidate will have a wide degree of creativity and latitude and is expected to be very familiar with a variety of the laboratory’s concepts, practices, and procedures. 

Job duties may include but are not limited to:

Direct the integration of chemical principles within biological research, overseeing the chemical biology aspects of the laboratory. Ensure that innovative chemical strategies are applied to address biological questions effectively.

Spearhead the implementation of chemical biology methodologies, facilitating a seamless integration of chemical tools and techniques within biological contexts, enhancing the depth and breadth of research approaches.

Lead the design and development of nanobodies targeting specific proteins of interest, driving innovative approaches in nanobody engineering and their practical application.

Oversee the comprehensive process of nanobody development, from design and optimization to characterization, focusing on achieving precision and efficacy in targeting key proteins for various applications within the lab's scope.

Manage and coordinate multiple projects concurrently, ensuring each project maintains its trajectory, meets milestones, and upholds scientific rigor.

Implement effective project management strategies, allocating resources appropriately, and overseeing timelines to ensure seamless progress across diverse research initiatives.

Engage actively with senior scientists and researchers in collaborative endeavors, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to address complex research challenges.

Collaborate seamlessly within cross-functional teams, leveraging diverse expertise and perspectives to drive innovative solutions and advancements in research.

Provide hands-on mentorship to graduate students, guiding them in designing and executing chemical modifications while fostering their professional growth.

Offer expert guidance in structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies, empowering students to enhance their research capabilities and contribute meaningfully to ongoing projects.

Expected Salary:

$70,000 Dependent on Experience

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific discipline required. A minimum of 2 years postdoctoral experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Chemical Biology or Chemistry.

Proven experience in nanobody development and SAR studies.

Strong leadership skills with experience in mentoring graduate students and junior researchers.

Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
