The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Med - Immunology/Rheumatology, is seeking a is seeking a Scientist III.  The Scientist III will play a leading role in overseeing Division's research portfolio including playing a leading role in a large national multi-site study(s) (n=20+ sites).

General Responsibilities  

 

  • To interpret, organize, execute and coordinate research assignments.
  • To formulate and conduct research on problems of considerable scope and complexity.
  • To explore subject area and define scope and selection of problems for investigation through conceptually related studies or series of projects of lesser scope.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities  

 

  • Works as a scientific collaborator and facilitates the development of research questions and study protocols.
  • Determines innovative ways to improve data generation and data quality.
  • Works with Division outcomes research team to develop database prototypes, and designs and builds new data set processes for modeling population level outcomes.
  • Works with the study PIs and Division Administrator to recruit, hire, train, and mentor staff with very high level analytical and technical skills.
  • Assists in the preparation of scientific reports for Division research program, including scientific papers and abstracts, as well as study specific administrative reports that will include and screening and recruitment reports by study.
  • Identifies opportunities and plays leading role in the development of multidisciplinary extramural research funding applications, including program project (e.g. P/U series mechanisms). 
  • Contributes to Division research strategic planning on a variety of topics relative to clinical research to convey knowledge as appropriate.
  • Maintains currency in field through cross training, continuing education, literature and seminars in order to implement this knowledge into the department.
  • Provides feedback/evaluation in consult with faculty/Division Administrator on research staff as part of annual evaluation In collaboration with Division HR.
  • Provides human resource oversight for subordinate personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Annual Salary Range   $80,300.00 - $133,300.00

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and six (6) years of related experience
    • OR M.D. and Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience

     

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. 

     

    Preferences

    • Familiarity with handling and working in large datasets and with database management.

    Key Skills

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for publishing research, delivering presentations, and grant writing.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
    • Ability to work efficiently in a multidisciplinary environment, with the capability to integrate various scientific domains.
