The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of  Molecular & Cellular Pathology, is seeking a Researcher II. 

General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct tumor studies involving genetic mouse models and injection (mammary, bone, other organs) of cancer cells into mice.
  • Monitor tumor growth and metastasis by advanced imaging and analysis of tumors by flow cytometry, molecular techniques (Western blot, real-time PCR), and histology/immunohistochemistry.
  • Perform cell-based assays in vitro using similar analysis techniques.
  • Treat mouse models with anti-cancer therapies and those currently in development by our laboratory.
  • Oversight and management (in conjunction with PI) of a genetically engineered mouse colony which will require collection of samples and genotyping of mice by PCR.
  • Assist, train, and direct other laboratory members (undergraduate students, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows) with their projects.
  • Responsible for laboratory organization (including reagent preparation, maintaining equipment such as liquid-nitrogen tanks, freezers, refrigerators, PCR, and real-time PCR machines), record-keeping, and inform PI of products to be ordered.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Hourly Salary Range     $15.50 - $23.51

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
    • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
    • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
