Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Neurobiology, is seeking a Researcher IV.

General Responsibilities

Working with a high degree of independence:

  • To oversee projects within the laboratory

  • To assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities.

  • To collect, enter, summarize, analyze, and interpret data.

  • To contribute significantly to the planning/design of studies.

  • To help develop long or short-term goals.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs stereotaxic injections of viral particles into the mouse brain.

  • Performs perfusion fixation of mice.

  • Performs vibratome sectioning of mouse brain.

  • Performs immunohistochemistry.

  • Performs fluorescence microscopy.

  • Performs image analysis.

  • Writes the results of experiments and generates figures for the results.

  • Follows established safety procedures.

  • Maintains stock of laboratory supplies for stereotaxic injection and histology.

  • Places orders when re-order is necessary.

  • Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment such as stereotaxic injector, vibratome, fume hood, and histology bench.

  • Cleans glassware and makes solutions.

  • Checks ultra cold freezers and removes encrusted ice as needed to ensure optimal performance.

  • Checks laboratory areas daily for cleanliness, e.g. preparation areas, storage areas, and general work areas, and ensures appropriate level of hygiene for each area.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Annual Salary Range $47,486.40 - $85,000.00



    Qualifications

    • Doctorate in a related field

    • OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience

    • OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience

    • OR Associate's degree in related field and six (6) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    Preferences

    • Degree in a biological science preferred.
