The Kuwajima Lab of the University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology Department is seeking candidates for a Research Technician II. Our group develops therapeutic strategies to prevent retinal ganglion cell death and to promote retinal axon regeneration after optic nerve injury.

Requirement: BS in Biology or Neuroscience



Job Summary

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.


Essential Functions 

Specific duties include:

- Breeding and checking mice

- Perfusion of mice and dissection of the retina and axons

- Histological experiments (sectioning using cryostat), visualization of cells and axons with microscopes and data analysis

- Molecular biology such as PCR

- Write and present research findings at the lab meetings and Pitt ophthalmology meetings and contribute to preparation of journal manuscripts and grant applications


Physical Effort 

Some physical effort is required, for example, moving and lifting boxes containing laboratory supplies and equipment (e.g. computer monitors or PCR or other machines). The employee may also be required to sit and work at a laboratory bench or cryostat to prepare cryosections for extended periods of time.
