Applications until 7 June 2024

The research group of Dr. Sandra Scharaw is looking for a

Technical Assistant (MTA/BTA or equivalent) (m/f/d)
in Cell Biology of Aging
working with organoids, microscopy and genome engineering.

The lab of Sandra Scharaw focuses on Cell Biology in Tissue Aging, with the goal to understand how stem cells organize their endomembrane organelles to drive tissue renewal and how it changes with age. We combine ultra-structure tissue imaging with the power of 3D intestinal organoid systems in a dish, to characterize the stem cell organelles and the transport of signals along them to the surrounding microenvironment. The usage of mouse models and organoids provide us with microcopy and omics-based readouts of stem cell functions, as well as gene editing possibilities in the context of age-linked dysfunctions. Our team is highly collaborative, international, and collaborative; English is our institute working language.

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, is an institute of the world-renowned Max Planck Society conducting ground-breaking biomedical research at the forefront of science. Currently about 500 employees work at the institute, where half are from abroad, representing 53 nations. The institute has won several prizes for its optimal work conditions and family-friendly environment.

Main responsibilities

The successful candidate will work with organoids and be responsible for preparing, performing and post-processing of experiments with them, recording of data and initial analysis. Specific tasks include:

  • Conduct experimental organoid culture activities such as organoid growth, quantifications, expansion and freezing
  • Perform experimental molecular biology work such as cloning, DNA/RNA/protein extraction and analysis
  • Microscopy: collect and prepare tissue and organoid samples (acquire data with confocal and spinning disc microscopes)
  • Lab organisation, ordering and indexing of materials, safety documentation, equipment maintenance.

Essential Qualifications
  • Research technician degree (MTA/BTA) or comparable qualification
