Job Description

The School of Life Sciences is seeking a Research Technician to assist in the Ugarova Lab. The Research Tech will perform laboratory techniques and data collection in the cell/molecular biology laboratory.

Salary Range

$20.40 per hour


Essential Duties

  • Under the supervision and guidance of the Research Staff Investigator, performs laboratory techniques and procedures required for experimental studies and projects as assigned. 
  • Conduct tests and procedures utilizing various laboratory equipment and instrumentation such as microscopes, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, analytical balances, etc. 
  • Assists in maintaining the mouse colonies and performing surgical procedures on research animals. 
  • Maintains detailed records of studies conducted, organizes data, prepares data for computer input, and records computer output. 
  • Package waste material and arrange for disposal according to established procedures.
  • Trains students in the operation of equipment and/or in technical procedures. May order laboratory supplies and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures, techniques, methods, and analysis sufficient to perform a variety of research protocols;
  • Basic knowledge of quantitative and statistical methods generally attained through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in a biological science major or related field of study. 
  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in a lab setting.  May be required to wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes, and respirator. Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Position works with animals. Requires lifting 50 pounds or more. Position has a specific vaccination requirements.  Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
