Position Description:

The Department of Health and Human Physiology (HHP) (http://clas.uiowa.edu/hhp/) at The University of Iowa (http://www.uiowa.edu/) invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research scholar position. The position will be broadly focused on epidemiological research in health behaviors, macro-environmental conditions and chronic diseases, including obesity, cardiometablic conditions and cancer. This position will be involved in conducting analyses using existing data from multiple large cohort and cross-sectional studies, writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, reports, and for presentation to academic and community audiences. The candidate will also gain experience in grantsmanship, as well as research design, planning, and execution. Appointment is for 2 years, with the second year contingent upon satisfactory progress.


Dr Qian Xiao’s research focuses on understanding the health effects of sleep and diurnal patterns of rest-activity and eating-fasting cycles. She is also interested in elucidating the biological mechanisms mediating the adverse health outcomes of sleep deficiency and circadian dysfunction, as well as studying the role of socioeconomic and macro-environmental conditions in shaping health behaviors and health outcomes

Education Requirement:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in public health or related disciplines. Applicants with a doctoral degree in another discipline may be considered if they possess skills essential to population research

Required Qualifications:

Experience in applying epidemiological/statistical methods to analyze population data. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.


Scholar must be highly motivated, have strong attention to detail, and ability to  troubleshoot problems, and bring projects to completion

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience in objective measurement of physical activity, metabolomics or other bioinformatics methods.
