Position Description:

The University of Iowa, College of Dentistry has an opening for a post-doctoral research scholar in Dr. Ganesan’s laboratory in the Iowa Institute for Oral Health Research. Our group seeks to investigate the underlying mechanism of the pathology of periodontal and peri-implant disease under the impact of systemic conditions such as obesity and Metabolic Syndrome by in vivo animal models and in vitro culture studies. Our lab focuses on the host-microbial interactions and identify microbial, immune, small molecule that underly the mechanisms.

• By time of appointment, PhD in Oral Biology or Biomedical Science or Biotechnology;

• expertise in working on any microbial host interfaces/niches;


• experience working with rodent models;


• experience in explant culturing;


• ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary group;


• excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; and


• first-authored publications.

• DDS/DMD or equivalent;


• Certificate in Periodontology or Oral Medicine training;


• Experience creating periodontitis models; and


• Experience/knowledge of animal colony maintenance/expansion, small animal (i.e. mouse) surgical skills, and using microtome for histology sectioning.
