In addition, they are using their expertise in interdisciplinary research centers across the university.

Carnegie Mellon University's department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department with design, synthesize, and characterize multifunctional soft materials for applications in soft robotics and wearable computing. In addition to materials development, this work will involve device and systems-level implementations that demonstrate the enabling properties of these material systems for use in robotics and human-machine interaction and such other tasks that are assigned to you.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Performing independent research on multifunctional soft materials.

  • Maintaining laboratory equipment used to perform research.

  • Reporting progress to project advisor, research collaborators, and funding sponsors.

  • Documenting research accomplishments and reporting work in a peer-reviewed journal.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, chemistry, or related disciplines required.

  • 3-5 years of experience required

  • Graduate level research experience on topics related to soft materials engineering, printed electronics, soft robotics, and/or liquid metal.

  • Should have experience performing research on topics with soft materials engineering, printed electronics, soft robotics, and/or liquid metal.
