Postdoctoral Research Associate Position - The DIGITAL Insights Lab

The DIGITAL Insights Lab at Yale University School of Medicine (PIs: Drs. Lisa Fucito and Kelly DeMartini) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate (2-3 year appointment; within 5 years of award of their PhD). Appointments are available to start in Winter 2024 (January 1, 2024 or sooner). This is a multi-year position for individuals seeking to become independent scientists in:

(a)  Digital psychiatry

(b)  Digital health technology

(c)  Data science and health informatics

(d)  Lifestyle risk behavior change and chronic disease prevention

The postdoctoral associate will work on multiple completed and ongoing NIH-funded studies investigating smartphones, biosensors, and other digital tools for assessing and phenotyping mental health and lifestyle risk behaviors (e.g., heavy alcohol use, tobacco use, deficient sleep), deriving personalized health feedback, and delivering tailored interventions. The fellow will also have the opportunity to analyze electronic health record data and EHR-tools for optimizing healthcare.  

Responsibilities include: a) study coordination and oversight, data management and analysis, and supervision of research staff for an NIH-funded longitudinal, digital phenotyping study on alcohol use disorder risk in young adults; b) authoring and co-authoring manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication; c) assisting with NIH-grant writing and submissions.

This position will also assist the associate to develop a career as an independent scientist. The associate will create an individual development plan with their mentors and complete training in areas including, but not limited to: biosensor and passive smartphone sensing technology, clinical trials design, implementation science frameworks, EMA methodology, qualitative research methods, advanced statistical methodologies, and intervention development and evaluation. 

Position Requirements: Competitive candidates should have: 1) a Ph.D. in behavioral sciences, public health, data science or related fields; 2) excellent writing skills; 3) strong research background; 4) excellent data and statistical skills; and 5) experience with digital technology and knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and advanced statistical modeling strongly preferred.
